In order to minimise damage to the canal's aquatic plant and animal life, British Waterways impose advisory speed restrictions on boats lower than the usual 4mph for canals. These are 3mph for the stretch between Frankton Junction and Queen's Head, and 2mph between Queen's head and Gronwyn Bridge. These markers are designed to help boaters assess their speed by timing the passage of their boat between the posts.

Brick building of 2 storeys with attics. The lower storey spoiled by shop fronts. Built in 1697, it was sold to the Corporation in 1763 'for the accommodation of the judges on their circuits, and to the public uses of the mayor for the time being'. It was neglected and finally sold off again in 1795. At one time it was the home of William Brewster D. Med. The building bears a plaque carrying this information.
