Southgate Circus, London N14
Southgate Circus, London N14
Southgate Circus as seen from the north side of Chase Side. This junction was originally called Fiveways because five routes met there. In the 1960s the small roundabout was removed, a pub and several other buildings were demolished to the left outside this image and an ugly 1960s office block with a Wimpy Bar on the corner was erected at the same time as the "circus" roundabout was created. Interestingly, the Edward VIII pillar box which is now in Winchmore Hill Road was originally on the roundabout - a sign of the volume of traffic in those days perhaps (1930s).
