Great Ellingham towermill
The towermill was built in 1849 as a five storey tarred red brick mill. It originally had common sails that drove a single pair of stones but the sails were later changed to double shuttered patent sails, each with eight bays of three shutters, struck by rocking lever and regulated by a long double chain that could be operated from the ground. The mill had a boat shaped cap, petticoat, gallery and a six-bladed fan. It is believed that the sixth floor was added before the sails were changed. A bake office operated on the same site. The tower is 16 metres (53 ft) high to the curb and the walls are almost one metre (3 feet) thick. The ground floor has a two leaf door and two windows. The first floor has a 5 metre (16 ft) high ceiling. The mill has since been converted into a private dwelling.
