Bursledon Windmill - gearing
Bursledon Windmill - gearing
This is taken from the ground floor looking vertically up the mill. In the centre is the bottom of the wooden mainshaft running in its footstep bearing. Above this is the gear driving the wire machine (to the left) and the great spur wheel that can be seen meshing with one of three stone nuts (to the right).
There is no public access above the stone floor (second floor) and the cap can only be seen up the stairs and looking distant.
