Cromer Windmill

Cromer windmill is the last surviving windmill in the county and is owned and run by the Hertfordshire Building Preservation Trust. The present mill dates from 1681 and was rebuilt following being blown over in 1860. Milling ceased in the 1920s and the mill fell into disrepair until rescued in 1967. It opened to the public in 1991.

The post mill comprises three floors within the Buck, the top or Bin floor, middle or Stone floor with a pair of stones and the bottom or Meal floor for flour collection. Beneath this is the Roundhouse which provides additional sheltered storage. An unusual feature is the ground level fan tail.
