Sutton Mill and Broads Museum
Sutton Mill is a Tower Mill and is Britain's tallest windmill. This historic corn mill was built over 200 years ago and was in use until 1940. A few years ago the then derelict mill was bought by the Nunn family who began the lengthy restoration work, which was still in progress at the time of my visit in 1996. A policy of traditional replacement was being pursued, using materials as near to the original as possible. The mill contains complete milling machinery, four sets of mill-stones, sack hoist and nine floors. The corn milling machinery is considered to be the finest in the area. The museum is also very interesting and is a museum of social life with examples of everyday household items, some long forgotten or unknown by people today. Sutton Mill is situated on the edge of the village of Sutton on New Road not far from Sutton Hall.
