NX9675 : Devorgilla Terrace
Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway, Great Britain

Devorgilla Terrace
Typical of the terrace homes built using the famed Locharbriggs sandstone which can also be seen at the site of the Statue of Liberty in New York. The building at the far end of the terrace was once a windmill built in the eighteenth century.
In eighteen thirty six the mill was converted into the astronomical observatory by installing a camera obscura and telescope.
Using nothing more than a pinhole, mirror, a lens. a reflective surface and some pulleys and ropes, it is possible to see a moving picture in amazing detail, of all of Dumfries as it rotates through a full circle.
