St Benets Abbey, also known as St Benet’s at Holme or Hulme, lies on a sand and gravel island called Cow Holm surrounded by grazing marshes beside the River Bure. It is one the most recognisable landmarks in the Norfolk landscape and has become an icon for the county’s historic landscape.
