Berkswell Windmill
The Berkswell Windmill was built in 1826 and is on the site of a much older post mill. It is the most complete Tower Mill in the whole of the Midlands (not just the West Midlands!), with its sails and all its internal machinery. In 1927 it was converted from wind power to diesel, but continued to run as a working mill until 1948.
It was purchased during the early 1970s by an ordinary retired couple who restored it and opened the mill to the public. Sadly the owner, Mr Field, passed away around in the early 1990s and the Mill declined once more.
The Windmill was then bought by Jeanette and Paul McGarry who have established the Friends of the Berkswell Windmill to assist with funding and restoration.
Now the Windmill opens to the public once more, usually on the first Saturday of every month from May to October, between 12 noon to 6pm, with a small admission fee.
