Entrance to disused airfield perimeter track
Acaster Malbis airfield opened in 1942 as a grass fighter airfield with USAF aircraft. A large heavy bomber base was later developed. However, the field was beset with problems of fog rolling in from the river causing many aircraft to crash. The airfield was closed in 1946.
