Steel Coppers
The next stage of the brewing is mashing, the milled grist is fed into a mash tun and mixed with hot liquor (brewing water as opposed to washing water) to make a kind of porridge. The mash tuns were out of bounds today due to maintenance work. The liquid from the mash tun is called wort and is run into the coppers, Brains brewery coppers are made of stainless steel! As you can see these were also having work done on them (hence the scaffold). The wort is boiled in the copper and hops and any adjuncts (other ingredients) are added at this stage. The wort is then run into the ST1875 : Fermenting Vessels via a cooling system
