Gargoyles
Gargoyles
Four gargoyles visible here. The obvious ones peeping from the corners and one beneath each visible central crenellation. The latter two doubling up as water-spouts (guttering overflows). Gargoyles were a regular feature of Gothic church architecture, and although this church dates only from the end of the C19th, it is built in the C13th French Gothic style and so has these rather splendid additions.
This is the top of the SP9533 : Tower of St. Mary's Woburn. The whole southern* side of the church can be seen here SP9533 : St. Mary the Virgin, Woburn (* Actually southeastern as the church is not aligned strictly E/W)
