Lincoln Castle, Lincoln
Georgian Prison Chapel - Looking over the cubicles towards the pulpit.
The chapel was described by Pevsner as, "A Unique and terrifying place."
There are tiers of cubicles, head high, which ensured that the prisoners could see the preacher, but not each other. The side walls of each cubicle were doors into the next. As each prisoner filed through they had to shut their door so that the next prisoner behind them could get in. This effectively sealed the row up. In order to get out they had to do so in reverse order.
