Lea-Francis - The 2.5 litre Sports. They were built between 1949 and 1953 in Lower Ford Street, Coventry. They were really more of a 2+2 tourer than a sporting car. When the company began failing in 1960 a new sports car was launched using parts from the Ford Zephyr, which was no longer being built. There was an adequate supply of parts, but the project never got beyond the prototype stage. Production of Lea-Francis cars ceased shortly after. Top speed was 100mph.
The Lea-Francis Lower Ford St factory was near this junction Link
(Raglan St, Alma St and Lower Ford St all meet).
The factory moved to Much Park St in 1937 Link
(in the background behind the statue.) No factory remains in Much Park St.
