All Saints Church - the stoning of St Stephen
All Saints Church - the stoning of St Stephen
The tower of All Saints church > LinkExternal link - LinkExternal link - LinkExternal link dates from the 14th century; it was restored twice during the 20th century and the sun dial above the porch, which has an upstairs room > LinkExternal link is modern > LinkExternal link. The rood screen > LinkExternal link dates from the 15th century and is unusual in that the paintings on its 16 panels depict not apostles or saints but kings. The tower screen > LinkExternal link has the date 1605 carved in its doors. The C14 wall paintings above the arcades > LinkExternal link are faded (or were overpainted at some time); the depiction of the stoning of St Stephen (seen here) in one of the spandrels is the only remaining scene that still is clearly visible. The octagonal font > LinkExternal link is C15. The church is open every day. For more information see: LinkExternal link
