Adams Grammar School & Almshouse
Flanking the entrance to the ancient school are twin almshouses. The one on the left bears the notice: 'These Almshouses were founded by the late William Adams Esq. for the Benefit of Two Single Men. Whereof the Worshipfull Company of Haberdashers in London are the Governors. Built Anno Domini 1657. Repaired & Beautified 1821.' The corresponding almshouse on the right (out of shot) bears the same text, with the substitution of 'Women' for 'Men'.
