Gay Meadow, Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury Town FC's stadium and pitch at Gay Meadow have now gone and the club has moved to a new stadium complex in SJ4910. The old site has been cleared for commercial redevelopment--probably not what the philanthropist who gave it to the town for recreational use had in mind.
In the foreground the Severn flows right to left. At one time a man was on hand, with a coracle, to retrieve the ball if it went in the river.
In the background, the Abbey Church in the centre, to the left the statue of Lord Hill can be seen on his column outside Shire Hall.
In the distance, the Wrekin is about to receive a shower of rain.
