This exclusive club was founded in 1824 and moved to this location in 1830. The club took its name from Athenium in Rome. (which was the home of the Science and Literary University fonded by Hadrian.) The building was designed by D
Decimus Burton with the upper story being added in 1899. The gilt statue above the entrance represents the goddess Athene. Most Prime Ministers have been a member of this club.
