SU6677 : River Thames above Mapledurham

near to Mapledurham, Oxfordshire, Great Britain

River Thames above Mapledurham
River Thames above Mapledurham
A peaceful section of the river above Mapledurham Lock. The post marks the edge of the channel, and may have been used to direct a towrope. The river goes round a bend here, and a direct pull on the rope would have pulled the boat too close to this shore so the post would have been used as a pivot to push it further out into the channel.
