Chapel of Our Lady, Scarborough Castle
St Mary's Chapel on the headland surrounded by Scarborough Castle walls. The first chapel was built in around 1000AD and replaced or rebuilt in the 12th and 14th centuries. It stands on the ruin of a Roman signal station built circa 370AD to give warning of Anglo-Saxon raiders. There was an earlier Iron Age settlement here in about 500BC.
