Dartmoor Ponies have been introduced as part of the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust's 'Waves of Heath' project to restore Scilly's maritime heathland. They are able to thrive on this type of habitat and will help to keep areas of ground open so that smaller plants and flowers can compete with the bracken and brambles.
In the distance can be seen the beautiful double peaked island of Samson.
Walkers are requested to ignore the ponies and not feed them.
Similar projects are taking place on the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire
