SU6664 : Stratfield Mortimer Church
near to Stratfield Mortimer, West Berkshire, Great Britain

Stratfield Mortimer Church
Dedicated to St Mary, this church is of medieval origin but was extensively rebuilt in 1869. The 'Stratfield' name means 'open land crossed by a Roman road' - in this case the Devil's Highway between London and Silchester, which runs a mile or so to the south and forms the boundary between Berkshire and Hampshire; the village of Stratfield Saye is on the Hampshire side.
