Grand Union Canal (Slough Arm) near Cowley (1)
Viewed from the Trout Lane bridge this is the eastern end of the canal near its junction with the main Grand Union Canal. It was built as late as 1882 with a view to transporting bricks, sand, and gravel to London. Traffic peaked in the 1900s to be followed by a steady decline until commercial boat workings ceased in 1960. The arm is unusual in not having any locks.
