Cowley: Former Cape Boards factory site
This photograph illustrates two things. Firstly it shows the change of use from a factory manufacturing insulation boards to a car park for the temporary storage of cars belonging to travellers who are using Heathrow Airport, and secondly the super abundance of such travellers' choice in selecting silver cars... If you look carefully there is the odd blue one and a few black ones but you would have to scan the photograph very carefully to spot the only red one.
The site was originally a brickworks, but Cape commenced production here in 1948, finally closing the site in 2003. At one stage in the 1980s the company employed around 600 people on this site.
