A "nadder"/ y neidr
This "nadder" was curled up in a grassy nest above the harbour to soak up what warmth the weak sun provided on a hazy September day: this has not been a good summer for snakes.
The Old English word nadder was lost when 'a nadder' was mistakenly transcribed 'an adder' but in Welsh the initial letter is retained.
There is a great deal of folklore associated with these snakes, especially in Wales, see Link
