How would I describe myself? I’m creative (draw, paint, trained graphic designer), love reading, gardening, going to the theatre and photography – – of course!

Married to Trusty Map Reader
Two daughters of 26 and 23 two cats of 14
I was born in 1950 in Tunbridge Wells (ccl Simon Lawson) but still think I’m 21 according to my daughters.
I lived here until 1958 (ccl Richard Croft) and here (ccl Stuart Buchan)
until I went to art college here in 1969 (ccl Keith Williams).
We used to live here (ccl Tim Hallam),
moved here (ccl Tom Courtney), where both daughters were born
and have lived in this street in for nearly 20 years.

My first job was at a printers near here second in an advertising agency near here (ccl Dennis Turner),
third for a children’s book publishers near here (ccl Tim Hallam)
and fourth as a graphic designer in this office block (ccl Stanley Howe). More cricket watched than work done in the summer!

My last full time job was in firstly as a lecturer and later as a programme manager in the Media Department, but have given that up because I got disillusioned by educational bureaucracy. (Someone suggested I’d given up work to devote more time to Geograph!)

Because I still miss the sea after 40+ years I would love to move to somewhere in Cornwall

I joined Geograph in July 2005 and quickly got hooked. Trusty Map Reader thinks I’ve got it so bad that he’s even threatened to confiscate my camera on occasion, although he does come on geographing trips sometimes. Honoured to be a Moderator, it gives me something to do when there’s nothing on the TV which is most evenings these days. Belonging is great; it’s like having a huge circle of friends even if they are all only at the end of a computer. And it gets me out and about, which is amazing as I was never one for leaving the car and striding out into the countryside.
It’s even led to me braving salt laden wind and crumbly cliff edge paths:
Oh – and it’s taught me how to do grid references – I never did get the hang of those at school.
