More about me

FIRST of all, have a look at my panoramas gallery, now unlocked again!!!LinkExternal link

OK - I'm a stained glass researcher,
map enthusiast, traveller,
language pedant (I'm told that should be "linguistic pedant")
Latecomer to geograph (07/07/07), when most local squares had been "taken", I got hooked pretty quickly. My heartland is East Suffolk, where I was born and grew up, and Norfolk, where I lived for nearly 30 years!

GotY shortlists - 2007: TM0733 : Human geography at Flatford on August Bank Holiday by Zorba the Geek TG0629 : Ancient oak on the way to Thurning by Zorba the Geek TL9925 : Brimming flower beds in Castle Park by Zorba the Geek TM2832 : Old jetty, new cranes by Zorba the Geek 2008: TM1923 : Female Emperor Moth by Zorba the Geek TF8745 : Red Admiral butterfly by Zorba the Geek TF8545 : Cinnabar caterpillar (close-up) by Zorba the Geek
and I like these too: SN3154 : Reflective rocks with a sunset bronze by Zorba the Geek TM2390 : Under my umbrella by Zorba the Geek TM0633 : A family of swans (and one duck) at the duckweed by Zorba the Geek SN4050 : The cat that walked by itself by Zorba the Geek TM2831 : Long shadows, long beach, long sunny day by Zorba the Geek SN3255 : Kissing gate to paradise by Zorba the Geek TM2831 : Weathered baulk of timber fires out to sea by Zorba the Geek TM1923 : Boats of yesterday, boats of today by Zorba the Geek TM1931 : Side by side, rusting and rotting by Zorba the Geek TM4775 : Blyth river sunset by Zorba the Geek TM0733 : Mirror, mirror on the pond by Zorba the Geek TM0734 : Sunset in a curved window by Zorba the Geek TM0212 : Pastel huts: a cut above by Zorba the Geek SM7525 : Misericord of the Green Man by Zorba the Geek TM0973 : Vanishing point by Zorba the Geek TM2327 : Croc on the beach by Zorba the Geek TM4765 : View south along Minsmere beach by Zorba the Geek TM4765 : Common Tern in classic pose by Zorba the Geek TF8745 : (European) Peacock butterfly by Zorba the Geek TF8745 : Comma butterfly by Zorba the Geek TM4767 : Looking north towards "Storm Surge" by Zorba the Geek TF8745 : "Won't you come into my parlour?" by Zorba the Geek TF8646 : Feel the peace! by Zorba the Geek TF8745 : Bumblebee feasting by Zorba the Geek TF8745 : Painted Lady butterfly by Zorba the Geek TF8646 : One for the connoisseur by Zorba the Geek

Incidentally, I love panoramas, which are not always popular with the moderators!
e.g. SM8122 : Walking the ridge of Dinas Fawr by Zorba the Geek SM8023 : Solva estuary from Penrhyn by Zorba the Geek SM8616 : Rock formation at Haroldston Chins by Zorba the Geek SN3154 : Climbing up from Traeth-yr-ynys, east side by Zorba the Geek TM1124 : Footpath and ride within Little Bentleyhall Wood by Zorba the Geek SN3054 : A wider view at sunset by Zorba the Geek TM2831 : Landguard panorama by Zorba the Geek TG3510 : Wide acres of sugar beet by Zorba the Geek TG3314 : From Pit Road to Knight's Wood across the plough by Zorba the Geek TM1124 : The black sheep of the family by Zorba the Geek TM1923 : The very end of Landermere Creek by Zorba the Geek TM2123 : Here once was Batt's Hall by Zorba the Geek TM4766 : Minsmere panorama, winter light by Zorba the Geek TM4775 : Derelict house, desolate location by Zorba the Geek NJ9818 : Blairton Links, looking south by Zorba the Geek TQ3280 : Inside The Globe: panorama by Zorba the Geek TG0044 : Morston quay panorama by Zorba the Geek TF8645 : Dune-scape from the highest sandhill by Zorba the Geek
and, if you like panoramas, have a look at the panorama gallery I compiled: LinkExternal link

I've also attempted to launch another gallery - a bit of a slow burn: LinkExternal link - The idea is to collect locations that have figured in creative writing. Also this: LinkExternal link for those who like sand patterns. And finally, for the übergeek LinkExternal link - a world of blue plaques etc.

In January 2008, I reached the dizzy heights of 156th on the points table! But I was then away and my star has declined!!

Now for some controversy: my alternative GotY 2008! I'll try not to repeat themes (which makes it hard when a better version of a theme comes in a later week) and I won't choose the same as the official GotY....In later weeks, I have chosen two equal firsts to be even more different from GotY itself.
