Ashdon Windmill - Trestle
Ashdon Windmill - Trestle
The four post trestle, when originally built this was open to the elements before a brick roundhouse was added in the 1820s. To the right is a recent repair by a skilled millwright replacing rot in the beam. The entire mill is rotated around the centre post.
Ashdon Postmill

Also known as Bragg's mill. A grade II listed, mid 18th C postmill that is under restoration. Built in 1757 by William Haylock, it was open trestle (no bricks). The mill was updated in the mid 19th C with governors, iron teeth on the brakewheels and the brick roundhouse. However this is still fairly unmodern considering many postmills had steam engines, fantails and patent sails. Working until 1912 it became derelict. Restoration took place in the 1950s, 1970s and to date.
